On Living Life So Superficially
The leaves do fall
and firm foundations form
Encrusting so some semblance of our souls.
The winds do blow and scatter from their dorm
The sleeping years unconsciousness patrols.
The sands which sail
and stay some lives distraught
Brush barkless branches bending b'yond their bonds.
The hungry shoppers' tasteless targets sought
Evoke the galleries of gay gourmands.
But just imagine
there some butterflies
With wings a'flappin' freely as they're flyin'
And paltry predators come spy that prize
And snap their sprites - so surely should be mine
Were't I look in
your eyes yet fail to see
Some essence there of your humanity.
