The
Fourth of July
Another lonely night surrounds my life
As fireworks illuminate the sky -
Exploding thoughts dissected by a knife
Demanding to be told some reasons why.
The celebrations all around proceed
That self-determination has won out.
But can a marriage based on trust succeed
When so much liberty provokes such doubt.
Does freedom override the solemn vows
Two people make to hold each other fast?
How can our courts absolve these slutty sows
From need to try to make their weddings last?
So here I am alone and wonder when
The voice of reason might be heard again?
