Birds of Prey
Dark death doth draw
some gnarly neighbors nigh
As 'midst the trees they circle here and yon
Alert for signals where their prey could die
That life for life might sacrifice a pawn.
The cat she loved was whisp'ring soft goodbye's
As in his gut a crab could not let go.
And so our love would fade with wistful why's
For wing'd cocks to consume in shadowed show.
We thought he was consid'rate thus to rise
And keep us from the pain to feel his pain.
Yet so our love would pass in guileful guise
To will me wonder how it waxed its wane.
Doth nature thus make idiots of all
That none need know the nurture of her call?
